During the summer of 1964, the author Ronald Eustice, worked at Meredith Farm as a student intern. During the 1950s and 1960s, Meredith was the leading Ayrshire herd on the East Coast, and only rivaled by the famous Oak Ridge herd at Calistoga, CA. The property that is now Meredith Farm has been an important part of Topsfield, Massachusetts community since the early 1600s. In 1946, Harry Lampert, a wholesale hardware entrepreneur purchased the farm for his son David and wife Irma. They developed an Ayrshire cattle breeding business and maintained a large flock of laying hens. David Lampert immediately hired Arthur G. Clark to manage Meredith Farm. Arthur Clark managed Meredith Farm 25 years and under guidance, Meredith became one of the most respected dairy herds in North America. During the 1950s through the 60s, Meredith showed six Grand Champion cows at Waterloo and was home to many national record-breaking milk producing cows. Arthur Clark won the 1955 Klussendorf Trophy for outstanding herdsmanship. In his final years, he wrote an extensive 40-page autobiography which describes his 25-year career at Meredith, growing up in rural New Hampshire, 1921 journey by car at age 18, to California and finally his highly fulfilling retirement years. MEREDITH FARM & THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF ARTHUR G. CLARK is the story of one of the world’s most successful “Gentleman’s Farms.”
