Julius Schmid, a partially paralyzed German immigrant arrived in New York in 1882 at the age of 17 to make his fortune. His early beginnings in New York city were difficult. From job-to-job, he went and finally worked his way up to an $8 dollar per month job with a retail druggist where he got the idea of selling condoms. He became wealthy and established Beaver Dam Stock Farm and developed one of the finest Holstein herds in North America.
